School Farm Updates

Poppyseed magazine

We are thrilled to share that the Amador County School District Farm was featured on the cover of Poppyseed Magazine! This exciting recognition shines a spotlight on the incredible things happening right here in our schools and community.
Our school farm is more than just a place to grow fresh produce, it’s a hands-on learning environment where students can connect with agriculture, nutrition, sustainability, and where their food comes from. The farm also helps bring fresh, locally grown ingredients straight to our school meals.
We are incredibly proud to see our students, staff, and school farm community celebrated in Poppyseed Magazine. What started with planting seeds is growing into something truly special! You can check out the article by going to the following webpage.

School Spotlight

Pioneer Elementary School

At Pioneer Elementary, our one-person kitchen team does it all! Every day, our dedicated cook, Jennifer Monteon, works hard to make mealtime something students can look forward to. From preparing nutritious and delicious meals to creating a welcoming and positive experience, she brings care and kindness to every tray.
For this cook, feeding kids is about more than just a meal, it’s about making each student’s day a little brighter, one bite at a time! We are so grateful for the hard work, dedication, and heart that goes into feeding our Pioneer students every single day!

Farm To School Summit

Soil Born Farms

On October 15, our Nutrition Services management team had the opportunity to attend the annual Farm to School Summit at Soil Born Farms in Rancho Cordova. The team explored innovative regenerative farming techniques, made valuable connections, and spoke with Jennifer Siebel Newsom about upcoming changes and opportunities for Nutrition Services programs across California. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn, collaborate, and bring fresh ideas back to Amador County to support our school farms, students, and nutritious school meals! The picture above shows some of the beautiful lettuce we plan to grow in our own farm this season.

Harvest Of the Month

Apple-solutely Amazing!

Apples are a delicious, crunchy fruit packed with nutrients to help growing kids stay healthy! They contain fiber to support healthy digestion, vitamin C to help keep your body healthy, and natural carbohydrates to give you energy for learning and playing. Apples are also made up of about 85% water to help keep you hydrated. Did you know apples float in water because about 25% of their volume is air? Whether you enjoy them red, green, sweet, or tart, apples are a tasty way to add healthy goodness to your day!

Lucky Tray Day

Who will be our next lucky winner?

On October 9th, all of our elementary schools celebrated their very first Lucky Tray Day! Students were full of excitement as they discovered the randomly selected lucky trays and won fun prizes. The smiles and enthusiasm made the day a huge success, and students are already looking forward to the next Lucky Tray Day.

Sweet Treats & Healthy Eats

Stay Safe and Healthy!

Halloween is full of sweet treats, but there are plenty of ways to keep it balanced! Enjoy your favorite candy in moderation, eat a healthy meal before trick-or-treating, and drink plenty of water. Choose nutritious snacks like apples, string cheese, or nuts when you can, and remember that it’s okay to enjoy a few Halloween treats while making healthy choices, too. Have a safe, happy, and healthy Halloween!
