Letter from Our Principal

Hello Mustang Family,

Welcome to the 2020/21 school year. If you are a returning student, Welcome back, if you are new to Argonaut, Welcome to the Mustang Family.  The start of this year is unlike any other and has some unique challenges. While in the middle of a global pandemic, we are preparing to start the school year by having students pick up their schedule, textbooks, Chromebooks, and Hotspots all while preparing standards aligned rigorous curriculum in a very new learning model. I want to thank everyone for being patient while our Argonaut staff works through all of the logistical changes in a very short period of time.

Building on last year, this year, all of our students will have the opportunity to work independently in their classes with the support of their content area teachers. Students will be required to engage with daily work, be held accountable for attendance and complete assignments with due dates. At the end of quarters and semesters, students will be awarded grades based on their performance to earn units toward graduation.

Our classes will be arranged by a modified A/B schedule which has been distributed to you and is located on our website. With student accountability as a hallmark of the expectations of the California Department of Education for the 20/21 school year, student attendance will be based on your students’ engagement in classes. It is important that your student engages with their classes every day. Wednesday will be a new outreach day called Mustang Meeting where students only have to check in with their outreach teachers and watch the daily announcements.

A silver lining of Distance Learning is our students expanded use and learning of new technology. Our students will engage with their classwork primarily using Google Classroom, Google Meet, Ed Puzzle, Flipgrid, Edgenuity, Turnitin and Illuminate. Our teachers will give instruction to our students on these software programs prior to having expectations in their class to use them. Parents will have the opportunity to learn more about them through parent universities offered by the ACUSD throughout the course of this year.

Our brand at Argonaut has always been strong academic, athletic and extracurricular programs. This year we will need to live up to our motto and have the Courage to Compete. We will have to find a way and push forward to carry the flag of our brand no matter what challenges we encounter.  Being respectful, responsible and resilient is part of our school culture and we expect students to exhibit those traits this year. I am confident that what we go through and survive this year will make us stronger in the future.

As I remind our student every year, the key to being successful in everything you set your mind to is the – BIG 5

  1. Show up – on time
  2. Be prepared
  3. Pay attention to detail
  4. Give 100% effort
  5. Finish every task assigned to you.

If you achieve those five essential expectations, you will be successful this year and beyond!

YOU CAN DO IT!……………..Go Mustangs!

Sincerely,

Troy Gassaway

Principal – Argonaut High School.
